Had a date night and got to go see some art. Artist Shaun Roberts currently has a show up at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, Texas. If you are near the area, you should go check it out. He paints and draws on a large scale that really allows the paint to become a lovely thing to behold. All the colors and strokes are interesting in themselves and many compositions are formed within each painting that are beautiful and interesting to look at closely. There are also smaller works that show Shaun's process of creating small studies, both paintings and drawings, before tackling the larger work. These smaller works feel more free and expressive than their larger counterparts. The artwork is paired with statements and images describing the historical influences of Shaun's work, which makes the contemporary imagery a fun contrast with familiar poses found in art history like The Entombment. It was great getting to see Shaun's newest work and I look forward to seeing new exhibitions in the future. The museum is open 7 days a week and Rebels & Renegades will be up through June 3rd. Let me know what you think.
