Game of Thrones: One More Season is Yet to Come

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

If you haven't watched Game of Thrones yet, as Samwise said to Frodo while surrounded by the fires of Mordor, "What are you waiting for?" Game of Thrones has had 7 glorious seasons with the 8th and final season on the horizon for April 14.

Game of Thrones is based on the fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire written by George R. R. Martin and created for television by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. This fictional story takes place during a time similar to the middle ages with this type of warfare in mind and includes castles, picturesque landscapes, dragons, strange and mysterious monsters, and magic. There are important families that make up the cast of characters in Martin's world: the Starks, the Lannisters, the Targaryens, the Baratheons, and the Tyrells to name a few. Part of the reason why this show is so interesting and captivating is the breadth and depth of the cast of characters and the vastness of the landscape that they occupy. Martin's method of story telling has changed the way stories are written. He has thrown out the rules, or what we thought were the parameters that a author must follow. I wont explain further, you'll have to watch, and you will know when you see it. Even though there are many story lines occurring at the same time, we still grow attached to these characters and their stories. Each episode feels like a short film. They are each approximately an hour long and the first 6 seasons consist of 10 episodes each, the seventh has 7 episodes, and the eighth will have 6 episodes. So, we get to spend a lot of time in this world and travel along with these characters for years. The series is filmed in beautiful locations including Iceland, Ireland, and Spain which add to the beauty and authenticity of the world imagined by Martin, Weiss, and Benioff. As a heads up, this series has intense violence and nudity for the faint of heart, but for the most part these elements do not take away from the impact of the show, but add to the telling of a dramatic story. As an example, The Battle of the Bastards that occurs during season 6 is beautiful to behold, it's gory and messy, but beautiful all the same. The way it was captured is cinematic, intense, and smart. This series can be streamed on HBO Go or through Amazon. So, go watch and tell me what you think. I'm happy to discuss anything and everything about this series. Enjoy!
